Severe weather possible Friday, July 10
A severe weather outbreak is possible across northern and northwest Illinois tomorrow afternoon. Depending on how early the sun breaks through the clouds, damaging straight-line winds and scattered tornadoes are possible.
The SPC has given the area a 30% chance of severe weather occurring in the Chicagoland region. There is a 10% chance that this severe weather will be signficant (generally defined as thunderstorm wind gusts greater than 80 mph, hail greater than 2″, or tornadoes stronger than EF2.)
8:57 AM CDT Update: With widespread cloud cover expected to be in place through the afternoon, the chances for severe weather have diminished considerably. There is a slight risk of severe weather across the entire area through tonight, and it is expected to be isolated in nature.
