Significant severe weather still a possibility June 18-19, 2009

June 17, 2009

The latest Day 2 convective outlook continues to raise the possibility of severe thunderstorms during the overnight hours of Thursday, June 18 into Friday, June 19. A derecho, which is a line of severe storms that can bring very strong winds and weak tornadoes, may affect northern Illinois.

This could lead to widespread outages and structural damage. Flooding rains are also a possibility.

The exact details of this system depend on how a similar system affects central and southern Illinois tonight. This blog will be updated tomorrow afternoon with those details.
