Significant severe weather outbreaks likely today and tomorrow, June 18-19, 2009

June 18, 2009

As of 8:00 AM, 0.18″ has fallen in the Carol Stream area. As of 11:00 AM, another large area of light to moderate rain, possibly with embedded thunder, is approaching from the west. These storms are not expected to be severe.

Another round of thunderstorms is expected to develop in northern/northeast Iowa and move east, then southeast into the Chicago area tonight. These thunderstorms should be severe and may bring hail up to 2″, winds up to or exceeding 75 mph, and possibly tornadoes. In addition, they will produce over an inch of rain.

With the ground already saturated, any rainfall will immediately runoff. Excessive rainfall rates may cause flooding.
