Heavy rainfall possible Tuesday, July 28

July 27, 2009

There is a very slight chance of severe weather tonight, July 27. An approaching cold front may trigger storms, with the threat of hail and damaging winds.

If July were to end today, with 2.44″ of rain, July 2009 would be approximately one inch short of the July normal (3.47″) for the area. However, there is a threat for locally heavy rainfall tomorrow, with rainfall totals possibly exceeding one to two inches, causing nuisance flooding. The ground is largely dry because of the recent dry weather.

July has not been uniformly dry across the area – some northeastern Illinois stations are above normal because of thunderstorms in the past week.
