Another round of heavy rain rolls through Carol Stream

August 3, 2010

August 3, 2010 Estimated Storm Total. Carol Stream is at the center of the blue circle. 2.22 inches of rain were actually recorded in my rain gauge.

As of 7:10 this morning, 2.22″ of rain has fallen in the past 24 hour in Carol Stream. Much of this has fallen in the past 3-6 hours, as a MCS (mesoscale convective system) rolled through from Rockford east-southeast to Gary.

With the ground remaining close to saturated from last Saturday’s storms, most of this water is expected to convert to runoff. Some nuisance flooding may be possible, blocking paths in Armstrong Park.

The latest forecast indicates that the afternoon will be free of precipitation, although quite hot. Tonight there will be another round of heavy-rain producing thunderstorms, but by Wednesday, the storm track will have been pushed further south. By the weekend, a northwest flow is expected to keep the area dry and cool for a time.
