This blog will detail the local effects of hydrology in the Klein Creek flood plain in Carol Stream. It is not to be a substitute for official sources of information, such as the National Weather Service – Chicago.

I expect to post details about any future significant flooding effects, weekly/monthly precipitation summaries, and other useful information regarding our area.

I am a resident of Carol Stream and live at the corner of Iowa Court and Hiawatha Drive, just south of Jay Stream school.

Basically, the larger reservoir isn’t online yet. A gate can be opened and some water will flow into the larger reservoir, but the pumps aren’t certified and ready to go.

We got 4.11″ in this last storm, roughly a 25-50 year event (2-4% annual chance). The flooding that resulted was consistent with the behavior of the creek prior to reservoir construction.
